Leave Shane

I looked down at Shane and then back up at the oncoming walkers. Again, I knew I didn’t want to die this way. I turned my head back down and reached my hand up to Shane’s face.

“I’m sorry it had to end this way. I’ll come back for you.” I whispered and took his hand to kiss it.

Then, with all the strength I could muster up, I got to my feet and turned to Rick.

“Let’s go.” I said through clenched teeth. I didn’t care that he’d saved my life; he’d ended Shane’s and I couldn’t forgive him for that- Not yet.

As Rick, Carl, and I ran down the hill, I turned around to get one more glance at Shane’s body. Walkers had reached him but thankfully they didn’t seem to want his flesh. I supposed it was because he had been one of them, if only for a minute.

We continued down the hill and across the field to the house. Bursting in, Rick immediately alerted the group.

“Walkers—dozens of ‘em—coming now—got—to—defend ourselves.” He said in between breaths.

I looked around the living room at all the wide eyes and open mouths. I noticed Glenn and Daryl had made it back if only minutes before us. They were both blood stained and muddy.

“Where’s Shane?” Andrea said from the bedroom door-frame. She had her arms crossed and a vacant expression on her face. “He... didn’t make it.” Rick fell to his knees. I snorted in disgust and sat myself down on a couch.

Lori heard the commotion from the kitchen and her and Beth came out to check what was happening. The look on her face made me sick as she knelt down to comfort Rick. Carl stood next to them hugging his mother and father.

“I know you lost a friend and all but...” T-Dog turned to the group from the window, “there are walkers comin’ from the woods. We’ve gotta do something.”

“Well… what are we going to do about it?” Lori looked up from her family.

“What do you mean what are we going to do about it? We’re gonna fight! We can kick some walker ass, not like we haven’t done it before!” Daryl answered.

Hershel agreed, “I’ll die defending my farm.”

“But wait a second, staying might not be the best idea.” Glenn spoke up. “There could be hundreds of them, I’m not sure we can hold them all off.”

“Same here. I think we should get off this farm before it’s too late,” said Maggie.

“Well we don’t have much time to decide so we’ve gotta do it now.” T-Dog said, looking out the window again.

We took a quick vote and ended up half and half. It was up to me to decide whether we should stay and fight, or leave the farm. I took a deep breath and raised my hand to…

Leave the Farm

Stay and Fight
