I gulped and turned to go left, further into the woods, praying it was the right way.
My gun hand shook as I snuck deeper in the trees, keeping my ears open for any sign of walkers around. I glanced up; the moon above barely shined through the thickness of the trees and I couldn’t spot any stars. I shifted my attention back to where I was headed. Further and further I walked until I heard it: a very faint but deep roar. My heart stopped completely and I fell back against a tree in shock. Whatever it was roared again; a blood curdling wretched cry from something that definitely didn’t sound human.
I held my breath trying not to cry. Words could not describe how scared I was. I didn’t know where I was, or how I got into this mess. I sunk down beneath the mist. Maybe if I could just wait here until day break I would find my way back somehow.
I gripped Shane’s gun tighter in my hand, seeing my knuckles go white. I hung my head and hiccupped a sob. Wiping my eyes quickly with the back of my hand, I sniffed and went to stand up when…
“RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!”
A deafening roar made me jump out of my skin. It was behind me… whatever it was was behind me…
I couldn’t hold back the tears, they dripped down my cheeks and off my chin. I stood up, turning to face whatever it was, and held up my gun. But before I could pull the trigger something huge sprinted towards me on all fours, knocking me to the ground. It pinned me underneath the mist. I couldn’t see its face or tell what it was. The last thing I felt was its awful warm breath against my face… until it ripped it off.
