The End (#6)

When I awoke, the sun had crept through the window above us. I turned my head to the side and saw Carl, still fast asleep.

Breathing deeply, thankful for him not getting up and running off again, I slowly sat up and scanned the room. It looked exactly as it did before I had fallen asleep. I let out another breath of relief.

The air was dry and felt a bit eerie. I got up and put my ear to the door. There was nothing indicating walkers were still in the house, yet I was still hesitant to move the dresser out of the way to open the door. I wanted to wait and see if anyone would try to find us first, so that I knew it was definitely safe.

I sat back down on the bed and waited. The same thoughts I had gone to bed with were now circling in my mind again and I ended up falling so deeply into them that I didn’t even notice my name being called until someone shook me.

“Lin, do you hear that?!” Carl hissed at me, clearly now awake.

“What?” I snapped out of my trance to listen intently.

“I thought I heard something out there…” Carl pointed at the door. I stood up to press my ear up to it as I’d done before.

I heard loud footsteps crunching over broken glass. I wasn’t sure if it was one of our people or if it was one of the undead.

“Is it them?” Carl asked.

I wasn’t sure if he meant them as in our group or the walkers, but my answer was the same for both,

“I don’t know.” I murmured, still listening closely.

The footsteps drew nearer until they sounded like they were right on the other side of the door.

I backed up and got down on my hands and knees to look underneath. Two big boots blocked the light that was coming in from under it. Still, I couldn’t make out who it was or if it was safe enough to open the door to check.

So I stood back up, took a deep breath, and called out,

“Hello? Who’s there?”

The footsteps stopped; all was quiet until,

“Lin? You in there?” it was Daryl.

“Oh thank God! Yes, it’s me and Carl’s in here too!” I smiled at Carl and he smiled back.

“Well, could you open the door? I can’t get it from this side.”

“Oh, right.” I muttered and Carl and I moved the dresser away from the door.

I unlocked it and opened it wide. There stood not only Daryl, but Rick, Lori, Glenn, and Andrea too.

Carl shouted out with joy and ran into his parents’ arms. I smiled as I hugged Daryl and then moved on to Glenn and then Andrea. After I greeted everyone, we all moved to the living room. There, I saw everyone else looking back at me. I smiled even wider and hugged each of them, as well. Even though last night had been a complete and utter disaster, I was thankful to see everyone smiling back at me, happy to see that I was alive.

Thank you so much for reading my Walking Dead Choose Your Own Adventure story! I hope you were happy with the choices you made, and if you’re not then feel free to go back and make some changes! There are 12 endings in all but only one path to get to the “To Be Continued…” ;)
