I rolled my eyes, but snatched the gun from her hand anyway.
“Thank you.” She mouthed to me.
I gripped the small revolver and opened the cylinder to see how many bullets it still had. There were six rounds, all there. I flipped it shut and sprinted up the stairs two at a time.
I carefully unlocked the door then slowly creaked it open to peer out. There was a foul smell right next to me. I turned and came face-to-face with a heavily decayed walker. I yelped in surprise and stepped back into the basement to distance myself from it. I raised the gun and shot it once in the chest (like an idiot), then another in the forehead.
The group downstairs was shouting up at me.
“Are you okay?!” Maggie asked.
“Yeah I’m fine.” I answered quickly and opened the door wider.
I made sure the coast was clear again; this time it was. I quietly snuck out the door and stepped over the walker I had just killed. I slipped on the rotting insides sprayed across the floor. I caught my balance before doing what I came up here to do; search for Carl.
I looked around the surrounding rooms but they were all empty. I figured he would’ve probably tried to find his father to “help”. So I moved into the living room, only to stumble upon a scene I found both incredible, but horrifying. The three men that had stayed upstairs were blasting away at the undead that were clawing at the windows and door. The guys hadn’t noticed me and obviously hadn’t seen Carl standing behind them either.
“Carl!” I shouted over the loud bangs and moans, “Get you’re stupid ass back over here!”
He whipped around and stared at me wide-eyed. “I’m sorry!” he shouted back and ran towards me. As soon as he was in reach, I grasped his upper arm and pulled him near the basement. Unfortunately, it had been blocked by a handful of walkers.
“Oh shit!” I exclaimed, backing up as they noticed us.
I shot two of them to try to see if we could sneak by, but it wasn’t enough. I looked around to see if we could go around or something… anything. Then, I saw the answer.
“We could go there!” Carl and I shouted at the same time.
Carl was pointing down the hall at a vacant room to the left of us while I looked past the walkers and out the back door. I considered both options; they could both be remotely safe if we were lucky.
The walkers were advancing towards us meaning I had to make an instantaneous decision. Should we…
Hide in the Room
Go Outside
