I had organized to go get Shane. Andrea, and T-Dog offered to go with me; Rick was hesitant to join, but I sure as hell didn’t want him there so I told him to stay. Besides, he had to be with Lori and Carl after what happened.
It was early morning when we drove up to where Shane had been killed. Of course, they didn’t know what had happened up there, but I was in no mood to explain. Instead, we heaved Shane into the back of the truck in silence. I couldn’t help but start to cry when I saw his stab wound. Either Andrea and T-Dog hadn’t noticed it, or supposed it was just a bite because they didn’t say anything about it.
We drove back to the farm in time to see Rick, Daryl and Glenn digging holes next to Dale’s grave. They were halfway done when they spotted us. T-Dog and Andrea pulled Shane out and laid him next to Hershel and Jimmy. I covered him up with more blankets I had found, dampening them with my tears.
It took a while to get the holes dug but once they were finished, we lowered the three bodies into the ground. The remaining survivors gathered around and Rick started to speak.
“We find ourselves here once again… it’s… heartbreaking. To see the ones we loved, the ones we truly cared about get taken from us. Nobody deserves to die the way they did.” He paused. I wasn’t sure he was able to keep talking, I was positive he had just reminisced on what had happened in the field with Shane.
For a couple of minutes nobody said anything. There were sniffles and sobs all around but nobody talked.
“If… if anyone has something they wanna say, you can go ahead.” Rick finally spoke.
“I love you Daddy…” I heard Maggie whisper.
I stared at where Shane was burried. I wanted to say something; I wanted to say how brave and courageous he was. I wanted to say how he always made the right choice and did it for the best of the group. I wanted to say that he cared about everyone and that I had loved him. But most importantly, I wanted to tell everyone that they were wrong. They were wrong to treat Shane like he wasn’t part of us. That Lori was the one who had caused him to do everything he did on a thoughtless decision.
But I didn’t; I didn’t want anyone to know what I had to say or what I felt about him because there were certain people in this group that would be hurt if they found out I loved Shane. And I didn’t need that at all; not after everything that had happened and was certainly going to happen in the days to come.
When I saw Lori glance at me, as if she knew what I was thinking; I was certain that I wished she was the one in the grave instead of Shane.
Thank you so much for reading my Walking Dead Choose Your Own Adventure story! I hope you were happy with the choices you made, and if you’re not then feel free to go back and make some changes! There are 12 endings in all but only one path to get to the “To Be Continued…” ;)
