The End (#8)

Maggie’s body was carried upstairs by Daryl and Rick. They laid her outside next to two other bodies and wrapped her in blankets from the house. Beth and Glenn hadn’t left her side since it happened. They didn’t talk to anyone, not even to each other. All they did was stare at her body, as if they still couldn’t believe she was gone.

“Hershel and Jimmy fought their hardest,” I heard Rick tell Lori, “It just wasn’t enough…”

Later in the morning, I had organized a small group to go get Shane. Andrea, and T-Dog offered to go with me; Rick was hesitant to join, but I sure as hell didn’t want him there so I told him to stay. Besides, he had to be with Lori and Carl after what had happened.

It was a sunny afternoon when we drove up to where Shane had been killed. Of course, they didn’t know what had happened up there, but I was in no mood to explain. Instead, we heaved Shane into the back of the truck in silence. I couldn’t help but start to cry when I saw his stab wound. Either Andrea and T-Dog hadn’t noticed it, or supposed it was just a bite because they didn’t say anything about it.

We drove back to the farm in time to see Rick, Daryl and Glenn digging holes next to Dale’s grave. They were on their third and fourth when we approached. T-Dog and Andrea pulled Shane out and laid him next to Maggie and two other bodies. I covered him up with more blankets I had found, dampening them with my tears.

It took a while to get the holes dug, but once they were finished we lowered the four bodies into the ground. The remaining survivors gathered around, but nobody spoke. I stared at where Shane had been burried. I wanted to say something; I wanted to say how brave and courageous he was. I wanted to say how he always made the right choice and did it for the best of the group. I wanted to say that he cared about everyone and that I had loved him. But most importantly, I wanted to tell everyone that they were wrong. They were wrong to treat Shane like he wasn’t part of the group. That Lori was the one who had caused him to do everything he did on a thoughtless decision.

I glanced over at Lori and saw her huddled with Carl again. She was crying as she stared at where Maggie was lying. I heard Glenn trying to hold back sobs; he was kneeling at her grave and was whispering something. That’s when I was certain that I wished Lori was the one in the grave instead of Shane, especially after what she had also done to Maggie.

Thank you so much for reading my Walking Dead Choose Your Own Adventure story! I hope you were happy with the choices you made, and if you’re not then feel free to go back and make some changes! There are 12 endings in all but only one path to get to the “To Be Continued…” ;)
