Shot Him

I pulled that trigger. Twice, three times, four times. I heard him scream, indicating that I’d hit him at least once. When I opened my eyes, I was staring at a window of walkers trying to get in. It’d gotten harder for them since so many had already been brought down; they had to use their tiny portion of a brain to figure out how to climb over bodies.

When I looked down I saw Rick on the floor. His eyes were bloodshot and his mouth hung open as he looked up at me in disbelief. I stared down at him and couldn’t help but smile. I knelt down, as chaos continued around us, and whispered so only he could hear.

“How does this feel Rick? Being betrayed again by someone who only wanted to help, and actually succeeding? You think you’re the boss of all of us? You’re not anymore. I did what Shane was going to do. You and your fucking whore of a wife can both suffer.”

I stood back up and backed away from the window that had now had a new intruder. A walker had finally made it over the bodies and was going for the only thing that couldn’t get away from it. Rick had been shot in the back, there was no way he could get up and limp away from this. He was in a pool of his own blood and couldn’t even scream when the walker had gotten to its knees and started to tear flesh from Rick’s face.

I sat near the kitchen and watched with a new disease spreading to my brain. I tilted my head to the side and bit my lip. I smiled knowing that I had done what Shane had meant to do. If he were still alive now, he’d be so proud of me.

Another of the monsters had made it through the window and also knelt down next to the walker who was already on top of Rick. I saw movement from the corner of my eye; Jimmy was pointing a gun at it, but I quickly drew my pistol and aimed it at him.

“Kill that walker and I will kill you.” I growled and Jimmy’s eyes grew wide.

However, he obviously didn’t take me too seriously and shot the walker anyway. I supposed it was because he was scared, but I aimed anyway and shot Jimmy in the stomach without hesitation. It felt good.

He doubled over with a grunt and dropped his gun. I lowered my pistol and turned my attention back to the ongoing feast. Rick was already dead by now, making no more noise at this point, and another walker had managed to squeeze in between the bodies. He joined the other two in their gluttony.

I put the pistol up to my nose to smell the strong metal scent mixed with gunpowder. It was a familiar scent, a scent I had smelled ever since I was twelve years old when I first started learning how to shoot. I closed my eyes, listening to the crunching and squishing of flesh between the walker’s teeth. I bit my lip again, thinking hard. When I opened my eyes, I realized I had bitten through it and blood was trickling down my chin. I wiped it away and took a deep breath; I had made my decision.

“Shane, I love you.” I said to myself then quickly put the gun in my mouth and pulled the trigger.

BAM!!!!!
